Black ears of corn are quite attractive for fall decorations, or popping into tasty popcorn! Perfect rows of beautiful, purple-black kernels all the way to the tip. Sturdy 2-m (6-7′) plants typically have one 10-15 cm (5-6″) ear per plant. Easy to grow, and does well in almost all growing climates. Fun for children’s gardens.

Plant two or three seeds 30-38 cm (12-15″) apart, in rows 76-91 cm (30-36″) apart, then thin to one plant per spot.

Depth
Sow seeds 2.5-5 cm (1-2″) deep.

Requirements
Make sure the soil is warm, at least above 12.7°C (55 °F). Prefers deep, well drained fertile soils with a pH between 6.0-6.8.

Germination
Seeds will sprout in 10-14 days, in warm soil.

Growing
Control weeds and water regularly. Allow ears to dry fully in the field and then continue drying inside for best popping.
