This winter-hardy bunching onion is always tender, mild and delicious.  Great for northern gardens. Slim 30-36 cm (12-14″) stalks never form a bulb and are cold hardy and disease resistant.

Space about 10 seeds per 2½ cm (1″); scatter seeds in a band 5 cm (2″) wide in rows 40 cm (16″) apart.

Depth
Plant seeds 13 mm (½”) deep.

Requirements
Prefers a sunny site with fertile, well-drained but moist soil.

Germination
Seeds will sprout in 6-12 days.

Timing
Start indoors 8-10 weeks before last heavy frost, or direct sow in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked for summer use, then sow a new crop every two weeks. Sow in fall for overwintering.

Growing
Pull any weeds from the bed as soon as they appear; onions compete poorly with weeds. Spread 5 cm (2″) of mulch over the bed once the plants are tall enough to stand above the compost to help prevent weed growth. Divide the clumps the second summer to produce a new crop.
