Plant seeds ½-1 cm (¼-½”) deep.
Prefers full sun and a fertile, well drained soil, with a pH range of 6.0-7.5.
Seeds will sprout in 7-10 days.
Aphids and flea beetles. Wash off aphids with a strong jet of water. Keep weeds in the garden down to control flea beetles.
Sow early spring (2 to 3 weeks before the average last frost date) through late summer. Turnips are tolerant of moderate frost as seedlings in spring, and as mature plants in fall.
Keep planting beds weed free. Overcrowding may cause small roots. Mulch turnips with straw to protect the tuber tops from sunburn.
